Surface Preparation

Good surface preparation requires that the substrate be not only clean, but also in good repair, and free of dirt, chalk, mildew and loose, flaking or peeling paint.  When you take the time to make sure the surface is in this condition, you will be rewarded with a durable paint job that will last for years.  Conversely, ignoring surface preparation or doing a half-hearted job can cause even the best paint to fail.  In fact, it is estimated that as many as 90% of all premature exterior paint failures are attributable to inadequate surface preparation.

Benefits of Using 100% Acrylic Latex Paint -- what we use

100% acrylic latex binders are more expensive than other types, but formulators choose to use them, particularly in more demanding applications because of higher performance.  In general, latex paints have better durability than do oil-based or alkyd paints -- better color retention, chalk resistance and resistance to long-term embrittlement and cracking.  Higher quality latex paints have greater durability and other performance advantages over lower quality latex paints -- mostly due to the type and amount of acrylic binder used.

High adhesion under wet conditions:

Resistance to blistering caused by rain or moisture Minimized chance of peeling and loss of adhesion

Water Resistance (dry out quickly following rain, dew, etc.)

Minimized tendency to grow mildew Reduced tendency to collect airborne dirt

Resistance to high alkalinity (high pH)

Less chance of "burn" on damp or relatively fresh masonry

 ● A High solids content

Helps provide a thick dry film which in turn is important for key properties including hiding, resistance to cracking and mildew, and general durability

Insolating Exterior Wall Coatings

Painting the interior or the exterior of a house can be quite an arduous task, but few realize that adding a fresh splash of color to the walls and siding of their homes can lead to reduced energy consumption and substantial savings on utility bills. Hy-Tech Thermal Solutions, LLC, of Melbourne, Florida, is producing a very complex blend of ceramic vacuum-filled refractory products designed to minimize the path of hot air transfer through ceilings, walls, and roofs. The insulating ceramic technology blocks the transfer of heat outward when applied to paint on interior walls and ceilings, and prevents the transfer of heat inward when used to paint exterior walls and roofs, effectively providing year-round comfort in the home.
